Today I am proud to reveal to the fruits of my last few weekends’ labour: my first ever WordPress plugin!
I Love Social Bookmarking is a simple WordPress plugin that allows your readers to submit your content to social media services via a clutter-free drop-down list of attractive icons.
For a demo of the plugin, just look at the bottom of this article and hover your mouse over the little heart icon.
Version 0.1b is a pre-release trial version released to eliminate bugs and identify popular feature requests before a general public release. If you’d like to help me test this version please install it and let me know of any problems you encounter or additional features you’d like to see included.
Head over to the ILSB plugin page for more details.

I will be testing it in a couple of days. Will be in touch!
Great work, Aaron. I’m impressed. Great choice of name too.
Nice work making it a plugin, Aaron! Thinking about using it myself.
Hope all’s well.
DT - Many thanks for your help. Looking forward to your thoughts.
johno - Cheers for the Digg earlier. You know I was reading this blog about typography and the name for this plugin just came to me in a moment of inspiration…
Actually it makes sense - I wanted to use the words “Social Bookmarking” and it has a little heart icon. Makes sense.
David - Would be great if you started using the plugin. I tell you what, seeing as it’s you, I’ll give you a special 25% discount.
Woohoo!
Johno, loving the jumper by the way. Where can I get one?
Awesome plugin!
I’m using it on my k2 (rc3) test blog. It has the problem of appearing after the posts when you call the tag. Really I’d like it to appear inside the post when the post is clicked on. If you see what I mean. I’m sure you could manually do this but if that was available in the options as a tick box it would be great.
Brilliant work, keep it up!
Hi Roscoe
Thanks for your feedback. Do you mean you’d like it to appear within single page articles, but not after the posts on your homepage or category pages? If so, this is pretty simple to implement and will be in the next release.
I like your blunted presents site btw. I used to be part of the DJ scene in Swindon - not too far from you - but I’ve grown in to a bit of an old fart these days. Still dig the music though
Great little plugin, but unfortunately, does not play well with others and I had to deactivate it.
One example, I use wp-tables extensively to present data.
When your plugin is activated, the tables disappear leaving nothing but the placeholder ( [table=table ID] ) in it’s place.
Do you think you could address this issue?
Porter - Thanks for notifying me of this. I have just released version 0.2 which fixes this problem.
I have also introduced new features such as the option to specify which WordPress page types the plugin will display on, plus the option to force the links to open in a new window. Also added Bloglines and Facebook.

This is great.
Thanks for the plug in. Came just in time as I was just about to install a rival.
I like your list of plug-ins for newbies as well.
Hi, I downloaded the plug but it is not working well and which are not icons, then select options when hidden remains hidden and when they desire is not open so that I can not use the social bookmarking. That was not done.
NOTE: We apologize for my English, is that there is no talk about it.
i love it but it is limited to the number of social bookmarks. Otherwise it looks really cute.

Well done! I’ve tried a lot of social bookmarking plugins (because I love social bookmarking too) but yours has to be the best I’ve found. It looks nice, the usability is great - the best actually. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
Have your say
