Eight things you probably don’t know about me

Just over a week ago I got tagged by Vivien at Inspiration Bit who asked me for eight things she didn’t know about me. Without digging up my dark and secretive past, I’ve managed to think of eight nuggets, some more interesting than others, which follow herewith.

I’m a devil worshipper

I’ve worshipped the red devils since I was nine years old. Devil’s I’ve worshipped in the past include, the late and great George Best (a bit before my time but one of the best all the same), Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Mark Hughes and Wayne Rooney.

By far, the devil I adore the most for those countless magical moments, his sheer genius and Gallic attitude, is the one and only Eric Cantona.

Eric Cantona the king

I used to be cool…

… and a DJ. That’s right, not too many years ago I supplemented my addiction to vinyl records by actually getting paid to play the music I loved to other cool cats out there who also (sometimes) loved the music I loved. Whilst drinking free beer! And surrounded by hot chicks!

Ah, those were the days. But alas, age comes to us all, and if you’re not young and trendy and can’t guarantee you’ll bring 50 drink-buying mates with you every time you play, there’s no future for you in the world of music.

Maybe I’ll post one of my old mixes sometime…

I used to work in a cinema

Many moons ago I did indeed work in a cinema and I can confirm it is absolutely the most fantastic job I’ve ever had. It only ever gets busy at the weekend so for the rest of the week you get paid to sit around, watch films (admittedly the same film about 20 times), eat popcorn and sweets, and tell naughty kids off.

If it wasn’t for the somewhat modest wages, I’d happily still be working there now.

I get really, really, really angry about the cost of dentistry in this country

As soon as I reached the age of 17 and had to start paying to go to the dentist, I decided to stop going. Truthfully, I couldn’t afford to. I was renting a house whilst earning a cinema wage at age 18 and once I’d paid for my vinyl records every week, there was little money left for beer, let alone food or dentistry.

Eight years later I broke a tooth so was forced to go to the dentist. Since that moment I have spent a phenomenal amount of money on getting my severely buggered gnashers fixed. To avoid this turning into a heated political rant about the lack of national health dentists, lets just say I have strong feelings on the matter.

I like to ride my bicycle

In fact I love to ride my bike, particularly where there’s lots of mud and water. I don’t get time to do it as much as I’d like to, but there’s nothing better than going into the country and just riding, finding where tracks lead and losing yourself in the middle of nowhere (as long as you can find the way back).

Mountain biking

I hate waking up in the morning

It’s illegal to wake up the first time the alarm sounds and without pressing snooze. It’s illegal to wake up on an odd number - ie, if the clock says 7:33 you have to sleep a bit more until it’s 7:40. It’s also perfectly acceptable to keep pressing snooze for an entire hour.

Girlfriends or partners that don’t agree with the above laws of sleeping can be a pain in the bum.

I’m a 360 gamer

I do thoroughly enjoy the odd blast on my Xbox 360. I’m by no means a gaming addict, but I try and have an hour or two gaming every week. I’m also quite crap at it, but I enjoy it all the same. I’m on Xbox Live but only have one friend. So if you fancy an easy win, send a friend request to gamertag ‘DubAll A‘.

My favourite biscuit is a bourbon cream

Not many people like bourbons as much as me. I’ve been known to eat entire packs in one go. I’m also partial to the odd Maryland chocolate chip cookie or even a Nice (simple, but delicious), but it’s always the bourbon cream I turn back to time and time again.

Bourbon Cream biscuit

Now that I’ve opened up and offered an insight to my inner soul, I must apologise for a slow month of blogging. There’s been a lot going on in my life this June, all of which is good positive stuff, but blogging has taken something of a back seat during this time. I hope to pick things up again in July and get back in to the blogging groove.

Many thanks to Vivien for the tag. And also thanks for the previous posts’ comments: Randa, Paul, Marc, David and Vivien (again).

Great opening Aaron - made me laugh. Do bourbon cream cookies… I mean biscuits, taste like bourbon?

I’m TOTALLY with you on the rules for getting up! :D

I look forward to hearing some of those mixes..! ;)

Very nice bits of info. Great stuff. :)

wow you were a DJ thats cool. Nice ifo abt yourself :)

My eyes! My eyes!

Did you have to choose that painting?? :(

Funny, I went grocery shopping last night and picked up some Nice buscuits to have with my tea.

As for gaming, there’s no substitute for pro evo on the PS2 in my opinion. I’ve tried it on the 360 but prefer the PS2.

Nice insight, Aaron!

Hey, biscuit lover, devil’s worshiper, Mr. ex-Cool DJ, sleepy bird - wow, I’ve learned many new cool things about you today :-) Thanks for accepting the tag, Aaron.

oh, and don’t get me started on the dentistry costs in Canada. That’s one of the reasons I still want to keep a full time day job - to get the company’s medical benefits that cover 50-80% of the dentistry expenses.

Randa - No, they taste like chocolate and are probably the single most perfect object known to man.

Paul - I’ll dig out some mixes and post them soon. What kind of DJing do you do (or did you do) - is it club stuff or mobile work?

Marc - Cheers mate :)

Arpit - Cheers. Look out for some mixes here soon…

David - Ha ha I’m glad that picture managed to wind up at least one reader :D

I agree Pro Evo on the 360 is a bit average actually. It’s OK but doesn’t really do the newer machine any justice.

Vivien - Thanks for the tag - it was a fun one to think about. Although my girlfriend isn’t happy with the line about her being a pain in the bum. Can I just clarify, she’s not a pain, she’s lovely. Especially in the mornings! ;)

I don’t believe your girlfriend back-track for one minute. Neither, I think, should anyone else. Ha ha ha.

I started off mobile at the tender age of 10, doing parties for friends and family members. Then I did a big chunk of local club DJing before moving to London - where I worked at some major clubs like Home and the Hammersmith Apollo.

When I moved back to Essex to start a family I got back to doing mobile again - but I haven’t done it actively now since Christmas, after the agent I was working for *badly* let me down…
