Hows your day going? What’s that - you’ve got a client that’s being a complete pain in the arse? They’ve called through the 37th set of amends on that brochure you’re doing? They want to see how the front cover would look if it was green? They want you to make the logo bigger?
Well, fear not my friend. Sit back, click play, and let off some steam.
(Credit to Sera for finding this one. And thanks, Sera, for giving me an excuse to put audio on my blog - I’ve been wanting to do it for months!)
Dish the dirt on your nightmare clients
So lets turn this into a designer group therapy session - this could be fun. Tell me all about your worst client and just why they are so annoying to work with? If it helps, play the song again.
I don’t understand why people would want to rant about their clients like this. More than ever before are employers Googling before hiring and that probably goes for regular clients as well, and it’s probably not that interesting to hire some guy who seems to hate most of his clients.
I’m not saying you do, and I know the rest of the bloggers don’t either, but I’m saying that’s how it can be interpreted by a potential client. I don’t know which situation you are in, but still. The only reason why I’m conscious about it is because I know I will be out looking for a job in the design industry within the next two or three years.
I saw this on Youtube a little while ago - its so true. I guess you can understand they are proud of their which is fine when its a nice one, its just no so great when its hidesous and you want to hide it away
Asgeir - Maybe thats why hardly anyone has replied! Personally, I work in marketing so I AM the client and I know I can be a pain! To be honest, I wasn’t hoping for a name and shame your crap clients post, just a bit of light-hearted fun. But maybe you’re right and people’s personal risk-averse PR machines are kicking in. Well, at least the song is funny.
Tara - In my work I give branding advice to people and I see it all the time - documents with HUGE logos plastered all over them. Subtlety is so much more effective than ramming branding down peoples throats.
As for my own horror stories, none in particular really stand out. Though my biggest pet peeve is how some people cannot comprehend the concept of designing and how much time goes into it. I mean, I can spend hours just picking out fonts and color combinations. When they tack on “a few small changes,” (and believe me, they ALWAYS do), they just don’t see they are tacking on an extra day/week/month’s worth of work. Then they wonder why it’s taking so long .. well, duh.
Moxy - Thanks for commenting, and welcome glad you liked the song.
Sera - Those last minute changed are inevitable - i know all too well. Maybe you should account for that when pricing and add a few hours for amends. Certainly for the repeat offenders.
Jez - It’s the Audio Player plugin by 1 Pixel Out. I highly recommend it.
