miLienzo.com v2
Posted 1 February 2007, by Aaron
Welcome to the new look miLienzo.com. I’ve spent many hours over the last two weeks hunched over my keyboard, firstly sussing out WordPress, which is an excellent piece of kit and much better than the blog software I was using on the old site, and secondly creating a custom skin for the site from scratch.
I’ve maintained the dark colours and purples, and the layout doesn’t deviate too far from the old site. However, with this skin I was keen to create a sense of depth and texture, which is a new direction for me as a lot of my previous web work uses clean and flat shapes and bright colours.
My intention was to emulate the feel of using a modern or futuristic interface, and I guess I was kind of inspired by the Apple iPhone design. I certainly thought of the iPhone when I was creating the buttons. I’m satisfied with the look: its minimalistic, innovative, and kind of technological.
Another achievement with this skin is that it is my first ever completely table-free web layout – everything you see is pure CSS. It’s looking identical in Firefox 2 and IE7, although I have had a few headaches getting it to render as expected in IE6. However, a few minor issues aside, I’m pretty much there.
So, welcome to the new site. Over the coming weeks and months I will post examples of my own multimedia projects, and comment generally on new media, design and technology. The primary purpose of miLienzo.com is to showcase my own work, but hopefully one or two of you might even find interesting, what I have to say.
